How To Save Energy At Home

home solar power battery
I want to know how many hours can I get out of one 12 volt deep cycle solar powered battery for home use.?

For example, can I run a two burner electric stove? Can I run a small dvd player?
Can I run lights?

You’ll need to know the amp/hour rating of the battery and factor in the current (amp) load demand of the devices being used. I don’t think you’ll be able to operate a stove for long (if at all) though a DVD player and low wattage light shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

If the electricity where you live is sporadic then you might think about a camp stove that runs on gas or kerosene. My buddy is trying to live off the grid and has a ton of 12 volt marine batteries and it seems to work OK.

Do you support the great Democratic plan for global energy price of gasoline?

Democrats Plan to comprehensive energy gasoline prices low is how we will. And so we will. This country is the ability to lower equipment: in our plants in car the plane of the plants, steel plants and factories of electronic products for American Independent Power 2 to 5 years. We can build windmills enough power plants and solar and wave energy to replace 90% of all electricity generated by coal and natural gas and reduce U.S. emissions CO 2 at least 25%. $ 400 billion we could build 400 000 windmills and to provide electricity to every household in America. Coal gas natural and saved by the Green Generation Elecrrical replaceable now be used to make fuel for cars, trucks, buses, boats and airplanes, or plastics, chemical products, fertilizers and pharmacuticals. We need a comprehensive plan that puts the U.S. to work on efforts to benefit 99% of America. Howard Scott Pearlman and Tony Mullen 25/05/2008

No, because if the Democrats support the idea that you know everything will sound good at first, but it will not work long term.

What would a 60 watt solar panel power? How many watts for a small home?

What would be helpful is some chart or diagram that would put this in perspective for me. I thought it would be neat to save up for solar panels for my home and take the load off my bill. Also, it would be nice to have something portable. But, when they say 60 watts can I run a tv and lights or just charge some batteries?

first the only things that run straight off these modules are variable speed DC motors. Pumps and fans primarily. I am sure you could run a light with a little engineering but who needs light while the sun is shining.

most televisions need 300 watts and up

As an Energy Auditor I can assure there is no average home.
Look at your own bill for a year and average it and that would be your average bill. There is always room for improvement to shave watts and maintain comfort and lifestyle.

most homes probably use at least 500Kwh some far more some far less. We use about 330Kwh

Your power output of your modules depends on sun hours

for instance I am in San Diego we average 5.6 sun hours

so a 60 watt panel would equal about 336 watts per day or 60 times 5.6

you have losses based on a number of factors count on 15 % for grid tied and 25% battery bank

or about 285 watts grid tied or 252 battery bank.

so with that panel you could run or offset 1 compact Fluorescent 13 watt bulb for 19-22 hours give or take.

Atrum Solar gave me an estiamte of approx. $34,000 for a solar panel system before rebate…?

Hi, We have a cabin which is approx. 1,000 sq ft with approx. 500 sq ft of workable roof space (according to astrum) The system we could able to get would produce approx. 5-6 kw of energy for our home. Does this estimate sound accurate? I don’t really have an issue because i realize it is just an estimate – But i can’t afford this amount of money for a solar system. Does anyone have information about companies the will lease solar panel systems in Pennsylvania? Or maybe some information on DIY solar panel kits? Actually any information on how a may be able to afford solar power would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!

Cool question!

First, I am assuming you are off the grid, in other words the cabin has no connection to the power grid. A grid connected system is going to require the technical assistance of this company and you will be prey to any costs that they want to charge.

The good news is that you can tell Atrum Solar that you only want 100 watts of solar power on the roof and federal regulations allow you to expand its capacity at your own pace. Make sure you tell them that you want the system to have the ability to handle at least 2000 watts of solar power in the future so you can expand as much as you want without buying more equipment.

Second, I encourage you to build your own solar system in the interim. Total cost will be less than $1,000 and you can power a television along with some lights with no problem at all. The solar panels you buy can be connected to the system that you eventually purchase.

The biggest gain from building your own solar system or DIY is that you will understand the costs of the technology and can fight back against over priced estimates. Here are some of my articles on this subject:

How does a graphic appears as an indicator of the rate of photosynthesis?

The action spectrum of photosynthesis shows an absorption high light purple / blueand orange / red and a low absorption of the green / yellow. If we created an experiment in which narrow bands of light color were disseminated in a aquatic plant as Elodea, and count the number of bubbles of oxygen produced as an indicator of rate of photosynthesis, how the graph appear? 1) as the action spectrum with peaks in purple / blue and orange / red and a low yellow / green. 2) exactly the opposite of all the action spectrum with a peak yellow / green. 3) perfectly flat, since there are many wavelengths uded Chlorophyll 4) a downward trend due to ultraviolet radiation has more energy than infrared. 5) There is no way to guess, without running the experiment.

The profile is the same as the spectrum of action – 1) is the correct answer.
