If we invest billions in green energy and put up thousands of square miles of black panels that give off radiant heat couldn’t that significantly cause more warming, not to mention the energy required to even make them?
Yes but in a different way than you think. The manufacturing of solar panels emits nitrogen trifluoride or NF3. NF3 is a greenhouse gas 17,000 times more potent than CO2.
“The concentration of NF3 in the atmosphere was artificially increased by a factor of 20 during the last two decades. The measurements of the concentration surpassed the previous estimates by a factor of five.
”
As far as any albedo effects from solar panels, the entire USA only occupies a little over 2% of the worlds surface, if you painted the USA black, it would have a minimal effect on globally averaged temperatures. The mining of the resources alone required to cover the entire USA with solar panels would devastate the planets ecosystem.

Atrum Solar gave me an estiamte of approx. $34,000 for a solar panel system before rebate…?
Hi, We have a cabin which is approx. 1,000 sq ft with approx. 500 sq ft of workable roof space (according to astrum) The system we could able to get would produce approx. 5-6 kw of energy for our home. Does this estimate sound accurate? I don’t really have an issue because i realize it is just an estimate – But i can’t afford this amount of money for a solar system. Does anyone have information about companies the will lease solar panel systems in Pennsylvania? Or maybe some information on DIY solar panel kits? Actually any information on how a may be able to afford solar power would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!
Cool question!
First, I am assuming you are off the grid, in other words the cabin has no connection to the power grid. A grid connected system is going to require the technical assistance of this company and you will be prey to any costs that they want to charge.
The good news is that you can tell Atrum Solar that you only want 100 watts of solar power on the roof and federal regulations allow you to expand its capacity at your own pace. Make sure you tell them that you want the system to have the ability to handle at least 2000 watts of solar power in the future so you can expand as much as you want without buying more equipment.
Second, I encourage you to build your own solar system in the interim. Total cost will be less than $1,000 and you can power a television along with some lights with no problem at all. The solar panels you buy can be connected to the system that you eventually purchase.
The biggest gain from building your own solar system or DIY is that you will understand the costs of the technology and can fight back against over priced estimates. Here are some of my articles on this subject:

Shouldn’t Obama be pouring a couple billion stimulus dollars to build StateOfTheArt GREEN solar/wind energy?
If I were him, I’d be setting up plans to build factories that are ‘green’ themselves (no or very little pollution) that build the latest in solar panels and wind turbine technology. Then making people build them all over the place. put solar panels in sun soaked regions of course, and put wind energy in the windiest regions of america.
Shouldnt that create hundreds of thousands of construction and factory jobs? I mean, some people would call it socialism or somewhat communism, but uh… we should rly be #1 in green energy.
PS: we could also build indoor plant factories to produce biofuels quickly and efficiently when you control every aspect of those plants growing. we jus gotta make sure these factories arent polluting or else we’d be up to our noses in factories that pollute.
I couldn’t agree with you more!!! Obama should grow a sack and make this a priority as we are looked as complete embarasments if we can’t lead on this issue.
Did you hear that the White House is going to Solar Power?
Solar Panels are being installed in the White House to provide some of the power needs.
I think this is great, and I hope they put the entire building on Solar Power, because that will help Americans overcome their fear of switching to a new technology.
The Government is already giving tax credits to individuals who switch to Solar Power or some other type of Green Technology to power their homes or businesses. If we get an Energy Bill passed, then there will be more investments in this area, and people will continue to get tax credits for making their homes and business more energy efficient.
Obama is demonstrating his clear support of “green technology”; and I think that anything that saves money is a good idea.
But it’s not the first time. Carter has solar panels installed on the roof to heat the water in the WH, and Reagan tore them down.

If you look in our history, wind has been used since the time when mills were invented and people were also using its power to sail over the seas. Using nature as the best source for your energy needs is one of the coolest things to do. This article might come in handy if you ever decide to make your own wind power.
As well as with solar panels, if you make wind power you are still using energy from the sun, but in a different approach. The power of the wind can be used in additional to building your own solar panels, it will give you a maximum of money saving and it will make you get rid of the electrical bill forever.
Nature is a blessing you would say, this is how the future looks. Imagine that the sun is hidden behind the clouds. In this case, the wind will perhaps help a little by compensating the lack of solar energy.
If you want to make wind power, you do not have to convert totally to this option, you can use it along with the classical electric provider but it will help anyway by lowering the cost of your bills. For making a device in this purpose, you will need a turbine that you can either buy or make alone. The difference between these two is that the buying a system like this might empty your pocket, while making your own stuff won’t cost much.
You can find a simple turbine even fewer than one hundred bucks. That is a big difference! If you buy small devices, you will be disappointed about their effectiveness so it is better to make your own. Search the web for successful cases where people have managed to make wind power their main source for electricity.
The reality is that most of the residences are situated in areas where the wind is blocked or has no force and this is due to the placement of the trees and other buildings and the turbulence created by them can lead in time to the destruction of the equipment. But if you do have a proper place and have decided to go along, keep in mind these: the turbine has to be as large as possible; the rotor diameter has to be around five meters at least.
The rotor blades can be bought or made manually, many amateur turbine builders made efficient blades from wood. The tower can be also built from scratch from pipes that you don’t use or improvised from a TV tower that others may have and do not use. You may be doing a great job from this because most of the people want to throw away old towers.
You can use this turbine for powering up batteries so you have them in case the normal power goes down or you can make it function in long term. Two more parts must be added to you equipment: a hub and a tail.
When starting to build something like this, you have to be aware of the scam material that is flowing on the net. Find valid sources that will help you for sure. About the Author

What are the drawbacks to using wind turbines or solar panels for providing all power to a home?
What are the drawbacks to using wind turbines or solar panels for providing all power to a home?
A. The wind and sun are not constant, so there would be times when no electricity would be generated.
B. The wind and sun are constant, so there would be plenty of electricity for the home.
C. Wind and solar power are inefficient and too expensive to use and maintain.
D. Wind and solar power are efficient, but they are not able to produce enough electricity for a single home.
